EMILY ADAMSON PHOTOGRAPHY » Documentary style New Zealand Wedding Photography

First of all congratulations on your upcoming wedding, I hope I can get to know you and capture it all in a way that makes you remember this time for the rest of your lives.

I specialise Wedding Photography and am most drawn to documentary and photojournalistic style.

I am a big fan of nature, cinema, live music, beekeeping, animals, indoor plants, art, design, my cat (Taco Bendedict Cumbercat), my pet chickens, my newly adopted pet goat! (Goaty mc Goaty face) and relaxed weddings. I am not a big fan of uptight posing and forced cheesy expressions. I really love and enjoy my time at weddings and even though my role is to document, I will often get caught up in the tears, the laughter and the dance floor.

Photography has taken me to some beautiful places, but we all know that weddings are about a lot more than that. I get a real buzz when I spot the little in between moments and interactions between people and secretly catch them for you. Whether it’s amongst the beautiful mountains of Queenstown and Wanaka, diy in your backyard, a huge party in a community hall, a long cozy winter dinner, an intimate elopement in nature, or in teepees on a beach, I love to tell the story. Your story, the moments in your day, your connections with your family and how it felt to be there.

The biggest compliment that I often hear is that it seemed like I was part of the group, a family friend maybe? People love that I capture how it felt to be there, photos when people weren’t looking and the real emotion. That’s what I would love to capture for you.

Awards and Qualifications:

My background has always included the arts, and I studied Fine Arts majoring in Ceramics prior to completing my Diploma of Photography in 1999 where I held multiple exhibitions and won the Art Acquisition Award for my graduating year.

I have worked in various roles in the photographic industry for over 16 years, have been awarded from both the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) and NZIPP (New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography). I’ve explored commercial, editorial and wedding photography and concluded that the thing that drives my photography is documenting authentic moments, capturing something honest between people, a feeling. The work I found most rewarding was the weddings that I was shooting, so from early 2012 I decided to focus (pun intended) on wedding photography full time.

Chairperson & Co Chair (with Jackie Ranken) of NZIPP Otago Southland Region from mid 2012 till 2015.

Judge at NZIPP Iris Awards 2015.

NZIPP Winner Wedding Classic 2017.

On team A Bit More Soul, a New Zealand retreat for photographers & creatives which began in 2013. We have held retreats in Arrowtown, Wellington, Golden Bay, D’urville Island and this year we will host our 6th retreat in Wanaka.

But that is MORE than enough about me, I want to hear all about you, after all, it is your story that is going to be told.
