Hello, I’m Emily, a Wedding Photographer based near Queenstown, New Zealand.
I am a big fan of…
…real laughter, the details, meaningful traditions, memories, candid smiles, old film portraits, having a great time at weddings
I am not a big fan of…
…uptight posing or forced cheesy expressions
I also shoot around New Zealand, often in Wanaka, Tekapo and Milford Sound. I am frequently in Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and Melbourne visiting family and love to shoot weddings in Australia too.
My favourite weddings are ones where people welcome me like family and I can be one of you for the day, while capturing it all. The biggest compliment that I hear often is that it seemed like I was part of the group, a family friend maybe? (I used to be a bit worried that it meant I didn’t look like a ‘real’ photographer or something? But now I think it’s great thing!) It allows people to relax around me and I can get those wonderful photos of people when they aren’t looking and don’t realise they are being photographed. I get a real buzz when I spot the little in-between moments and interactions and secretly catch them for you.
While my focus is always on the candids and I really enjoy my time at Weddings, I take my job very seriously and will work my butt off to make sure everything is captured well for you. I really love taking formal family photos and I take extra care with them.
For your portraits together, I will give you a bit of direction so you don’t feel lost, and I have a few tricks up my sleeve to help you relax (cause being in photos is weird). I won’t put you in poses that don’t feel like you, and I won’t insist you leave the party for hours to get photos. I send you LOTS of information from what I have learned works well and tips on how to get the best experience of the day and also make the most of me as your photographer.
Here is my little office assistant Taco Benedict Cumbercat and me getting the job done on top of a lovely snowy mountain.
